Restoration of the Shrine Dedicated to Saint Rosalia

Cammarata is rich in shrines located in various corners of the historic center. These shrines were created as symbols of a neighborhood, along a street, or simply as a point of reference for the community of believers. In Piazza Vittoria, at the foot of the building owned by the Martorana family at the start of Via Luigi Longo, stands a shrine, unfortunately abandoned and affected by time and humidity, and lacking sacred images.

There is no information on the construction date, but we can hypothesize it was built during renovations to the terrace of the adjacent house in the 1950s. With the awareness of not leaving this historic feature to its fate, and with the support of Archpriest Don Davide Trizzino, the families of Renato Malta and Alfonso Miccichè, convinced that a cultural heritage of any kind should not be lost, restored the shrine and, in agreement with Archpriest Trizzino, dedicated it to Saint Rosalia by placing the statue of the Saint there, restoring a devotional tradition that had faded over time.

Shrine Dedicated to Saint Rosalia

In this way, a signal of dedication and devotion is renewed to the second patron saint of the town of Cammarata, in a shrine that has been restored and reborn with renewed splendor. The terracotta statue is an interpretation designed by Professor Giovanni Buzzetta and his daughter, Leontina Buzzetta. The current restoration project was carried out in the year marking the 400th anniversary of the relics of Saint Rosalia, returning a new symbol of devotion to the entire community, especially the district of Piazza Cammarata.
